EMERGING MERCURY MITIGATION SOLUTIONS FOR ARTISANAL SMALL‑SCALE GOLD MINING COMMUNITIES EVALUATED THROUGH A MULTICRITERIA DECISION ANALYSIS APPROACH

SUMMARY

This article dimensions of the extractivism mining in Colombia. Analysis of rationalities of the government during the last decade analyses the mining boom in Colombia since 2000. First, from the institutional transformation and new fiscal design legislated over the last decade; second, in relation to the political and territorial dimensions of military securitization of mineral resources; and, finally, in terms of the socio-environmental conflicts and social organization that has disputed the (legal and illegal) military control of extractive geographies. Thus, the paper adds to the debate on extractivism by examining economic and coercive mechanisms that have played in the expansion of the mining frontier in Colombia.
